Science

At Sudbourne we encourage children to become curious learners, always asking questions about the world around them and connecting that to other areas of learning. Through our science lessons we aim to equip pupils with the skills to answer their questions as well as wanting to find out more.

Science is in every fibre of our lives and at Sudbourne we encourage our pupils to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. We aim to develop young scientists who are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. High level vocabulary is present in lessons and displayed in the classroom so that it is embedded in every lesson.

From early years up to year 6, scientific enquiry and investigation is embedded in all lessons, from pouring water into different containers in EYFS, to creating circuits with electricity in phase 3. Children build on knowledge from previous years to have a broad understanding of the world and how science influences everything around them.
