Design & Technology

Design and technology is an important part of our curriculum at Sudbourne Primary School. DT allows children to use their creativity to solve real and relevant problems through investigation, design, creation and evaluation of products.

They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens.

Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.

Throughout their time in KS1, children at Sudbourne primary will have the opportunity to build structures, create mechanisms such as leavers, sliders and axles. They will develop their skills further as they progress into KS2 applying their knowledge to more complex structure and mechanical systems. Children will also have the opportunity to learn keys skills relevant to cooking and nutrition, learning where food comes from, how to keep a varied and balanced diet and understanding how ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed.
